Meet the Photographer
My name is Shelby Ratliff, and I’m a photographer based in Central Florida, specializing in equine photography. Horses have always been a deep passion of mine. Like many devoted equestrians, I grew up riding whenever I could, but my serious commitment began at fourteen when my family bought my horse, Mona. She taught me invaluable life lessons — patience, hard work, passion, and persistence — the very qualities that define a true horseman.
Art has also been a lifelong love of mine. Throughout school, I enrolled in every art class available, including Film Photography, 2D and 3D Art, Studio Art, Digital 3D Character Modeling, Ceramics, Photoshop, and Art History. Even while earning my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, I made it a priority to keep art at the center of my life. During college, my mother gifted me my first DSLR camera, and I quickly fell in love with photography as it gave me a way to capture precious moments with my animals.
I started bringing my camera to the barn and horse shows, documenting my horses, friends, and fellow competitors as we traveled across the country. I blended my artistic background in composition and color with my understanding of horses to create meaningful, lasting images for owners and riders alike. Horses and photography have both shaped my life in profound ways, and I’m so grateful to merge these passions in my work.
